We are so pleased to be featuring Paul Graham’s wonderful photos through Advent and Christmas.

Paul Graham is an award-winning Worthington, Ohio photographer.  He got bitten by the photography bug as a 12-year-old when he won his first camera playing darts at a street festival: the Circleville Pumpkin Show!   As a photography major at Ohio State University from 1975-1976, he had the opportunity and good fortune to study with luminaries such Harry Callahan and James Friedman, both of whom had a great influence on him.  

Though he ended up not getting a degree in photography, he has continued to practice the art and craft of photography for the past 40+ years.  Except for a few instances of photojournalism over the years and the occasional photo contest, it wasn’t until July 2002 at the prompting of a friend that he started to do art festival types of events and submit his work for exhibitions.

From 2002 to the present , he has been included in gallery and other art exhibits, including shows put on and hosted by the Ohio Art League, the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit, Xavier University, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Ohio Arts Council, the Lost Angeles Center for Digital Art, the Worthington Area Art League, the Springfield Museum of Art, the Jung Association of Central Ohio Gallery, Studios On High Gallery, Artist Archives of the Western Reserve, the Columbus Aids Task Force “Art For Life” benefit, the Ohio Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, the High Road Gallery, Franklin County Metro Parks, Highline Coffee (Worthington OH), Starbucks (Dublin OH), the Worthington Historical Society, the Columbus AlivePhoto Contests and Exhibits, the Upper Arlington Concourse Gallery, the Knox County Art League, , Mac Worthington’s Gallerie, the Delaware Arts Castle,  the Fifth Ave. Galleries and Custom Framing , the  Dublin Area Art League, Eclectik Framing and Gallery,  and Studio 16. 

His work has been included in several private collections and one piece was purchased by Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio to be part of their permanent art collection.  He is most interested in the qualities of light, while trying to capture those real moments in time, and trying to show different perspectives for everyday scenes or objects.  

His work reflects that he has one foot in the world of abstraction and the other in the world of photorealism.  In some instances, he tries to link the two.  As such he likes to juxtapose reality and unreality in images.  These images are as seen, are unintended accidents that can be used to this end, or have been manipulated.
