Jamie Massa shares how she will approach the 2 new classes on centering prayer

We need to write out the qualities of a divine being that we would like to get close to. We could pray and ask for an awareness of the Divine that is loving, kind, friendly, in my corner and on my side. Not demanding or pushy, just accepting us as we are, imperfect and frail creatures.

It is my opinion that there are a few issues that can make it harder to surrender and let go in contemplation or centering:

Having a harsh inner critic that is hard on us, is often critiquing & judging us.

In this, we need to become aware of this voice and call it out.

It helps to do readings about being less hard on ourselves and to practice holding gentle and forgiving feelings toward ourselves. Doing daily affirmations is also helpful:

“May I feel contented & safe”

“May I feel protected & pleased”

“May my physical body support me w/ strength.”

“May I be kind & friendly to myself.”

“May I forgive myself when I make mistakes or am off base.”

“May my life unfold smoothly with ease.”

“I let go and let God run the show.”

A view of the Divine or the Universe as being harsh, critical & unkind.

No one would want to get close to a Divine Being or the Universe that is full of anger, critiquing and judging.
