There is a mural of a tree on a wall at Neighborhood Services Inc. (NSI) that names the twelve churches that founded the pantry in 1965 and depicts them as roots that support NSI’s current work. Saint Stephen’s is named as one of those roots. We were there since NSI’s founding, and we have been proud to support the pantry through volunteering and making material contributions for fifty-nine years.

There are many impoverished people in the University District and the surrounding neighborhoods, and NSI has made great strides in meeting their needs. They serve almost 25,000 families a year and provide an array of social services. Some of our members work there as social workers and office help. Others volunteer there on a weekly basis. Every Sunday, our parishioners brings goods to church which we then deliver to NSI. Once a year, we participate with other churches in a choir concert that raises money for NSI’s mission.

1 in 8 Ohioans are food insecure. Our partnership with NSI helps us to live out our Christian vocations by making sure that people are fed.
